One Night in Bangkok

Greetings viewers, from the Royal Silk Lounge in Bangkok where I am about an hour away from boarding my final plane of this mega-holiday, back to London. Is a Business Class flight with Thai Airways, and it's 12 hours in the afternoon which will be a struggle.

Flew into BKK in First Class, which was obviously very exciting. From an in-flight service perspcetive, it was comparable to Singapore Airlines' Business Class, interestinly (which means Thai Business will be more SQ Premium Economy I suspect). So there were spacebeds etc. There were only two of us in First, so the service was very (almost embarassingly, for a Brit) attentive!

Best of all, though, was the service on arrival - swept in electric buggy to Immigration, then met by Porters who got my luggage and whisked me into my Air-Con Limo direct to the hotel. At 6am this was all quite overwhelming but also much, much appreciated to say the least: it takes me a good while to orientate myself in new cities, esepcially at that time of day. So I was quite worried about navigating myself to my hotel... this solved all those problems.

Indulgence was, really, the watchword of the stay, I've got to be honest. I'd paid for an expensive (relatively) hotel - The Metropolitan - which was fabulous. I was also able to check-in at 7am, which was a godsend. Lovely room, fantastic service... as I was on my own and knew I'd be tired and relatively hesitant about exploring Bangkok, I was happy to let the hotel take the strain.

Did wonder for about 2 hours in the afternoon, in the area around my hotel (East of Bangkrak). Main perceptions of Bangkok: busy; hot; lots of traffic; manic! The kind of place that is wearily overwhelming at first but I would imagine also the kind of place you could fall in love with the buzz of. I probably didn't get enough time to reach the latter stage while I was there, but would love to come back and give it a whirl (with company to enjoy it - and the hotel - with).
