Last of the Great Westerns
I write this from a very late-running, very warm, tedious First Great Western service to Bristol... heavy irony across the board in terms of that moniker, although we are headed vaguely West at least, when we're moving - which for the lat 30 minutes, we haven't been.
Can't really be bothered to list all the problems of this service, but in summary:
-My train was cancelled at the very outset (although after being sat on in at Paddington for half-an-hour), thus I re-located to the next train
- I have a first class ticket, offering dubiously low-class service at the best of times, but by all accounts standard has the delight of being sans aircon on a day of 32-degree heat
- As such First has now been declassified and the great unwashed are streaming in to our coaches to try and cool down (although it's hardly arctic in here either), interrupting my horse-riding and watching the ice swan melt
- The heat has meant that some points outside Swindon have expanded and are now dangerous (if you see what I mean)... As such.. well, I don't know - other than we're going nowhere fast.
it's already 45 minutes I was supposed to be in Brisvegas. Even with a fair wind there would be an hour to go... sigh....
