Catching up post-Espana

Well, as you may have gathered from the earlier "on the fly" posts, we had something of a delay getting to Spain. Ahem. The last photo was taken just after the flight had changed from "Delayed to 1900" (which was already a 2.25hr delay) to "Delayed". I think we all know that's never good.

To cut to the chase, we eventually took off at 2300 - and instead of flying to MJV , we had to fly to ALC (due to the former's closure overnight), and be bussed down instead. We eventually arrived at 4am. As you can imagine, there wasn't a heck of a lot going on - although, surprisingly, there were a few cabs - but we decided to walk it in the almost-morning-but-really-still-bloody-dark, eventually hitting bed at 5am. The gods were obviously doing something for us though - at 5.05am it chucked it down with rain...

Communication-wise, Monarch were crap, and their man at the information desk was rude, jobsworthy and very... well, knee-jerk British service, basically. For our 6.25hr delay we were given £4 each to spend on the delights that Gatwick had to offer. In total of course we "landed" about 9 hours after we were due. Nice. The excitement of seeing Amy and the Neighbours Hunk (why can I never remember his real name?) at the Celeb-Air check-in were sadly long-forgotten.

On-boarch Monarch. Finally

The holiday itself, though, was lovely - relaxing, quiet, doing very little... exactly what was required, particularly good after the surreal nature of leaving my job , and the general chaos and hangover of the Schlager Party  the night before we left.

ps: In other news, one of the two books I read was Mark Frith's Celeb Diaries. FYI, it's rubbish. I was genuinely really disappointed at this; mainly due to Mark's previous editorship of Ver Hits I have him held in high esteem. But this book was trying so hard to be Piers Morgan's Diaries, yet failed on every level. So obviously written "after the event" yet written in the style of a contemporanious diary, it was almost painful to turn the page.

(Piers Morgan's one, by contrast - The Insider: The Private Diaries of a Scandalous Decade - I heartily recommend - read that on the beach in Gran Canaria '05. And the other book that entertained me in Spain was the Spice Girls biography by David Sinclair - again, a must, although bit disappointed that it hadn't been brought up-to-date to the reunion tour, even if the cover has been).
pps: We flew back with easyJet - my first time ever, folks... I've spent some time trying to avoid it. Yes yes I know they're "better than Ryanair" and "a business product" and the like. And I know about the young fleet. But frankly unallocated seating is inhumane. There is no other word for it.
And, while we had Speedy Boarding, we still had to plough through this scrum  - that emerged within nanoseconds of the gate wench arriving with his toolbox - to try and make the most of it, with suspscition and mistrust abounding.
