Catching up (again)

Jumbo Hostel in the Sunset

Hello, hello... sorry that it's been so long since I last posted (but, as ever, I refer the honourable reader to my Twitter and Flickr feeds which generally get updated a little more often).

The main event of the last month or so has been, of course, my Turning 30. Let's not dwell on the significance of the age, or the aches and pains which I feel on a daily basis now I am into my fourth decade (erk!). Instead - and, much more on topic for this blog - let's just say what an amazing weekend I had in Stockholm with 17 fab friends, 1 amazing boyfriend and, of course, the fantastic Melodifestivalen final being held in my honour.

This was the third MF-related visit to Sweden, and the 6th visit overall, and I still don't tire of the place. How can you, when on Friday night after going to the Melodifestivalen rehearsal (where we had a ball, mainly thanks to random drunk Swedish interlopers and lots of wine) we get to go to a fabulous club playing non-stop Scandipop and Schlager, with drag queens doing Perelli and Velvet performing a live PA? It doesn't get much better than that.

[A couple of Flickr photos will follow, over and above that above - from the final few hours in Stockholm when we visited the Jumbo Hostel. How fab/gay/impractical (hmm, those words all rather tautologous, no?) - but iPhoto is giving me nothing but grief this week so things haven't moved quite at the pace I'd've wished for].

We're properly into Eurovision season now, of course - mind you, with year-round Scandipop and Schalger Party, it's now a year-long affair, much to my pleasure.

In two weeks there's the Eurovision Preview Party at the Scala again - hosted, as ever, by Dame Nicki French and Lady Paddy O'Connell. I'm already excited about being able to sing/shout the words to Don't Play That Song Again...

Oh, Jade's video was released yesterday - you can see it on the BBC site here (and I'll embed it here when I can) - and also the Digital Dog remix is doing the rounds. I'm warming to both... it's been good to hear them on a dancefloor setting. There's a lot to commend power-ballads, whether remixed or otherwise, for drunken performance facially and visually. The reaction at Friday's Schlager Party was, I thought, a bit lukewarm - one of my last memories of the night at 2.55am being a queen running into the loos shreaking "I hate this song!". Charming.
