Admitting defeat

Ok - the time has definitely come to admit that this blog is on its last legs. Ahem. That's probably been the case for the last five years, to be fair - or at least since Twitter came about and made shooting random links and pointless thoughts into the hot air of the Internet much easier.
The death-knell, though, has to be that the only post that really kept this alive, namely my annual rundown of my favourite pop of the year, didn't even make it onto this blog. As I was away in Florida over the new year, I didn't have my laptop with me... and it became very apparent at that point that Google really don't give a shit about Blogger anymore. Trying to create a post with iPhone or iPad was a nightmare. And so instead, I turned to Day One and did my first ever post with that. And (after getting to grips with markdown) it was easy, and fabulous, and created a link that I could simply tweet out and put on Facebook and there we are, it's all done. And, in the process, the blog is done for.
I suspect Google are desperate to put Blogger out of its misery but they realise that too many people use it, but clearly they can't consider it a core part of their world, as the iOS apps haven't been updated in years and indeed the whole site has barely changed in the last 5 years or so. Yes, it still works... but you use it with the feeling that at some point the whole rug could be pulled from under you.
However, I am still keeping this blog active as it serves as my homepage for the domain and I still can't find a better way of creating a better 'homepage' that can include links to things and my Twitter feed etc. (Flavors.me was a brief interlude but I am pleased to put that behind me).
So I have created a template that looks ruddy unattractive on a normal desktop browser - for which I apologise - but which I hope will do the job on mobile, and has various links and stuff all below here.
And of course the Blog continues to exist - in archive form. Links to previous years will all remain accessible below... for as long as Google will support Blogger I guess. And look out for more long-form writing, if it ever comes, via DayOne links on my Twitter feed.
