2017 in Pop

Another year passses, another 12 months of pop music has come into our lives… some of it dashing off again without trace, but some of it sticking around for ongoing enjoyment.

The story of our heart, sorry, of 2017 has been dominated from my perspective by Steps and Bananarama, with new material from the former (sorry, that doesn’t do it justice; one of the best pop albums ever, seeing the light of day 20 years on from the very start of Steps… in my wildest dreams, this was not on the radar 12 months ago) to two U.K. tours running simultaneously (actually our livers and tired bodies would have preferred if that hadn’t been the case, but there we are). Amazing. 

However as the Rules (I count ‘em) dictate, we can’t just fill the list with Steps singles, even if they are the best 4 songs of the year. So without further ado… my top U.K. singles of 2017, followed very closely behind by a bunch of other fantastic tracks. This year I added to the longlist as I went along, which means there is both a bit more than normal but just as likely stuff that got forgotten.
