Right let’s cut to the chase of what you are here for -
The Top Pop of the year. Well, here are twenty banging songs at least - 20 for 2023.
Enjoy them via the playlists or just read the list and sing to yourself in your head or out loud if you will.
2023 was of course the year of the Padamic, and isn’t it bloody wonderful to see Kylie riding supreme again - and in the Top 10 to boot - that was not on my bingo card for the year but crikey this middle-aged gay boy is thrilled. And we’ll be able to celebrate her continued triumph in a few weeks experiencing our own Vegas High!
Do I need to say the usual rules by now (they’re not new but we got ‘em anyway)? One per artist, although featuring on someone else’s is a loophole I will allow. And no Eurovision or adjacent - otherwise, we’ll be here all day, and it’s nearly 2024. There’s another playlist for that anyway!

Oh and another year of great gigs of course. For once I’ve actually started used Setlist.fm to track them so there’s (almost) a full list here although not sure the Mighty Hoopla list is a full selection of everything we saw!
Concerts in the UK included Sophie Ellis‐Bextor (twice), Dani Sylvia (what a joy that was - so much great energy in the room!), Jessie Ware, S Club, Sugababes, Delta Goodrem, the bloody Pet Shop Boys again (the never-ending Dreamworld tour), Ava Max, Dotter and Måns. We also saw Madonna in Antwerp and Dagny in Oslo, which was a marvellous homecoming gig to be at. (Sadly last year’s hopeful comment about seeing Celine did not come to pass, as we know).
And of course the Hoopla was Mighty... what a great line-up we saw, including a brilliant Samantha Mumba performance that got us all choked, and a slightly drunken but very lovely chat with Queen Lisa Scott-Lee in the VIP.. to name just a fraction of the amazing times we had over 48 hours there. (Margate Pride was also brilliant; B*Witched and Claire Richards both lit the place up that night. Newcastle Pride was WET but Amelia Lily did her best to raise our soaked spirits).
2024 already shaping up nicely with Girls Aloud the current centrepiece of the schedule - well, after our little Vegas trip in Jan of course. Happy new year everyone and here’s to another year of dancing to amazing pop music, whether in the club or around the living room.
